My encounter with Professor Lejeune was one of the most luminous moments of my life. His wisdom, his intelligence, and his friendliness were a gift of God. A few years ago I had the privilege of conversing with the Holy Father and we we spoke of Jérôme Lejeune. His Holiness said, "he is the most intelligent person I have ever met". The Holy Father not only admired him, but he believed in him and loved him. Jérôme had an extraordinary facility for explaining scientific discoveries, even the most subtle, in words which everyone could understand.

It seems to me that the great saints of the last century were Mother Teresa and Jérôme Lejeune. And for the century to come it will be the great John-Paul II.
